Established at the end of 2022, Planetary Health Investments (previously Bioindustrial Investments) solidifies Novo Holdings position as one of the world’s foremost active investors in the bioindustrial sector. We invest in areas where biotechnology can deliver returns while tackling global challenges, including feeding a growing world population, fighting climate change and drought, or creating sustainable cities and urbanisation.
Planetary Health Investments is also committed to investing in Green Tech scaling – tested solutions that can be scaled up relatively quickly – to amplify the meaningful impact of innovative and sustainable technological solutions for the benefit of people and the planet.

Operating out of Copenhagen, San Francisco, Boston and Singapore, we have a global mandate to invest in cutting-edge facilities and technologies, as we identify and invest in companies at all stages of development within sustainable agriculture, manufacturing, chemicals, and materials. From water innovation to advanced recycling and novel foods, our priorities are geared towards advancing the green transition by harnessing the power of biotechnology.
As of year-end 2024, 16 employees work in Planetary Health Investments. The team brings an engaged ownership approach to realise the potential of portfolio companies. This includes expertise in scaling, commercialisation, and a significant industry network. With our shared passion for science, sustainability and innovation, our team culture is dynamic and adaptive, embracing the fast-evolving nature of bioindustrials while maintaining a strong ethical foundation.

Our investment mandate and assets
By the end of 2024, Planetary Health Investments was managing a portfolio of 23 companies, with a total portfolio value of approximately USD 844 million. Geographically, 51% of the portfolio value was in companies based in the US, 47% in Europe, and 2% in Asia.
